SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam and wife Mrs Mary Tan hosted about 60 volunteers from various sectors to tea at the Istana on Monday.

The sectors include the social services, arts and heritage, sports, culture and environment.

The event was held in conjunction with the International Volunteer Day, which fell on Dec 5. It was organised with the support of the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre and the International Volunteer Day Executive Committee chaired by the YMCA Singapore.

President Tan thanked the volunteers for their efforts and for contributing their time, talent and professional skills to create a positive impact on those they help. He said: "I hope to see more Singaporeans contributing to the community through volunteering and help build a more caring and resilient Singapore."
