The police have arrested a 47-year-old man for suspected involvement in a spate of cashcard thefts in Hougang.

Between Jan 1 and Jan 9, several police reports were made after vehicle owners found their side windows smashed and cashcards stolen. In the early hours of Friday morning, police officers from Ang Mo Kio police division detained a man whose description matched the image of the suspect, which was obtained from closed-circuit television footage, the police said in a statement. A search of the man's belongings revealed items like a hammer, a glove, and glass fragments.

In the statement, police made an appeal to the public not to leave valuables like cashcards or laptops in their vehicles, and to note the serial number on their cashcard.
