SINGAPORE - The police arrested 41 men and one woman aged between 16 and 57 on Monday (March 20) for illegal public gambling and gang-related activities.
The arrests came after a five-hour raid conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Geylang.
Items seized during the operation included cash amounting to about $21,000, mobile phones and gambling paraphernalia.
Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.
Any person found guilty of gambling in a public place may be jailed for up to six months, pay a fine of up to $5,000 or both.
Any person who found guilty of instigating, promoting or intentionally facilitating public gambling may be fined between $20,000 and $200,000, and face imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
Any person who is or acts as a member of an unlawful society, or attends a meeting of an unlawful society may be fined up to $5,000 , jailed up to three years or both.
