A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a woman in Ang Mo Kio.

The 35-year-old victim was walking along a sheltered walkway in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Street 52 on Oct 28 at about 9.30pm when the suspect grabbed her handbag containing cash, valuables and mobile phone worth a total of about $1,500 before running away.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division eventually tracked down the suspect and arrested him in the vicinity of Sentosa on Wednesday at about 11.25am.

If convicted, the suspect faces a jail term of up to 20 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
