PM Lee joins record-breaking kompang ensemble event

SINGAPORE - More than 400 residents from Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West came together on Sunday to set a new record for the largest kompang ensemble.

They were joined by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who played the kompang - a traditional Malay instrument in the shape of a small drum - along with them at Bowen Secondary School on Sunday night.

The event was organised by grassroots organisations in Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West, and spearheaded by the Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Division, in celebration of Singapore's 50th anniversary of nationhood

With a total of 425 residents playing the kompang, the event found its way into the Singapore Book of Records, breaking the previous record set by Tampines GRC with 125 residents.
