Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spent the last hour of 2013 at a grassroots countdown party with some 1,000 residents of Ang Mo Kio.

Arriving around 10.45pm, he shook residents' hands and took photographs with them, and at one point even told the performing band in Mandarin that they were doing fantastically.

Mr Lee, who is a grassroots adviser and Member of Parliament for the Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC), will be staying for the new year countdown. He was accompanied by his wife, Ms Ho Ching.

The countdown party, held at the Cheng San Community Club and the Ang Mo Kio 3G Centre next door, included a foam party for children, games, food stalls and a movie marathon, as well as band performances.
