PM Lee, Dr Balakrishnan send congratulations over Sarawak poll win to PM Najib and state chief minister

SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has sent a congratulatory letter to his Malaysian counterpart, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, over Barisan Nasional's victory in the 11th Sarawak state election.

The poll was held on May 7.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan has also written a congratulatory letter to Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Dear Prime Minister Najib,

Warmest congratulations on the Barisan Nasional's strong showing at the 11th Sarawak State Election! You and your team have worked hard to secure this convincing victory and mandate.

This demonstrates that the people of Sarawak trust your vision for the state and for their future. I am confident that under your leadership, Sarawak will continue to progress and prosper in the years ahead.

During my recent visit to Sarawak in February 2016, I saw first-hand the immense potential benefit that stronger ties between Sarawak and Singapore can bring to our peoples. I look forward to exploring more areas of cooperation with you and your team.
