PM at Chingay Parade: Resilience part of Singapore spirit

Lights dimmed and smoke filled the ground as performers dressed in silver and white carried 3,500 fire torches for the opening of Friday's Chingay Parade.

With the theme of "Fire in Snow", spectators got to watch an array of performances, with talent groups spinning fiery rods, fluffy white-costumed youth dancers and some volunteers even cooking up a storm as they paraded through the 390m stretch.

The parade ended with snow scene covering the 390m stretch of the F1 Pit Building.

Friday's guest of honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, wished spectators a happy Chinese New Year and said that resilience is a part of the Singapore spirit.

The Chingay Parade will continue on Saturday night.
