Plans to install police cameras (Polcams) at 650 more blocks of Housing Board flats and multi-storey carparks by the end of the year are on track, said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on Saturday.
The move for Polcams to cover all HDB estates by 2016, was first announced in March during Budget 2013.
DPM Teo, who is also the Home Affairs Minister, said the Home Team continually seeks to leverage more on technology as a "force multiplier" and Polcams "act as additional eyes on the ground" since they were installed in May last year. "So far, camera footage has helped to solve 18 crime cases, and provided leads in another 109 cases."
The minister was speaking at the Home Affairs Uniformed Services Scholarship award ceremony at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, where 15 scholars received their awards.
