SINGAPORE - A discount for Pioneer Generation shoppers at NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) will be extended for another year, till Dec 31, 2016, the supermarket chain said on Monday (Dec 21).

The 3 per cent discount is extended to customers who flash their Pioneer Generation card at all FairPrice stores on Mondays.

Since its launch in October last year, the discount has saved pioneers a total of $3.6 million, FairPrice said.

CEO Seah Kian Peng said: "With the extension of the Pioneer Generation discount scheme, we hope to continue to provide greater savings for pioneers to purchase their daily essentials and stretch their dollar.

"This is our small way of thanking and honouring our pioneers who have given so much of themselves for Singapore."

Pioneers will continue get priority payment queues where other customers are encouraged to give way to Pioneer Generation shoppers, FairPrice said.

Pioneer Generation Singaporeans include those who were 65 or older in 2014, and who were citizens before 1987.

FairPrice also has a two-per-cent discount for all seniors above age 60 on Tuesdays.

The discounts are subject to a $200 cap per transaction, and excludes items such as gift vouchers, newspapers and cigarettes.
