Passenger traffic at Changi Airport hits new high for March

Changi Airport handled 4.61 million passengers last month, its highest ever in March and an increase of 7.7 per cent over the same month last year.

Changi Airport Group (CAG) said holiday makers travelling over the Good Friday long weekend and the weekend before contributed to the traffic growth.

Aircraft movements also grew by 5.3 per cent to 28,400 flights, while cargo handled grew by 2.5 per cent to 167,200 tonnes compared to last March.

In the first quarter of this year, Changi handled 13.05 million passengers - an increase of 6.2 per cent over the same period last year. This was underpinned by growth in traffic in Northeast Asia, Southwest Pacific and South Asia.

CAG said additional capacity will be added to several sectors from March 31 to Oct 26, due to the strong growth in travel demand within Asia. The routes that will have additional services include Bangkok, Phuket and Danang.
