SINGAPORE - Parkway Parade will be closed until at least Thursday (May 19), following a fire at one of its stores on Sunday night.

"Parkway Parade will be keeping the retail mall closed for the next two days," the mall's general manager Jenny Khoo told The Straits Times on Tuesday. "The fire caused damage to essential cabling for the fire protection system. We are currently working on reinstatement, followed by testing and commissioning."

The Straits Times understands that the fire broke out in Fox Kids and Baby, a clothing store on the second floor of the Marine Parade mall.

The mall and its carpark were closed on Monday and Tuesday, and only the office tower and banks on level one are open.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force had said it was alerted to the fire close to midnight. Upon arrival, officers located the blaze in a storeroom, entered by force and put out the flames with a water jet.

There were no reported injuries and no evacuation was conducted.
