SINGAPORE - With former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew's 91st birthday soon approaching, the People's Action Party (PAP) headquarters has set up a website to gather digital good wishes for Mr Lee.
The site, Happy Birthday Mr Lee Kuan Yew, is collecting and publishing birthday greetings from various social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google Plus.
Hundreds of messages have already poured in from the public, in all four official languages, ahead of Mr Lee's birthday on Sept 16.
The wishes are tagged with #happybirthdayLKY, a movement that appears to have been started by local designer Catherine Leck. Last month, Ms Leck created some artwork depicting Mr Lee and encouraged others to wish him happy birthday on social media.
The PAP has also caught on to the trend. "The #happybirthdayLKY movement has taken Singapore by storm and here at PAP, we'd like to do our part too, creating a never-before-seen e-card stream," the party said on its official Facebook page on Saturday night.
Members of the public can visit its website at http://www.happybirthdaylky.org to leave a message.
