Otter spotter: Otter seen taking a dip and basking in the sun at East Coast beach

SINGAPORE - An otter was spotted taking a dip at East Coast beach, and basking in the sun on Thursday morning.

A netizen sent a photo of the otter to citizen journalism site Stomp under the moniker Nanik. He had seen the otter near East Coast Seafood Centre at around 8.20am.

While it was a pleasant surprise to the netizen, otters have been sighted at East Coast Park. They have even been spotted as far inland as Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

In October last year, an otter was seen taking a dip in Swan Lake at Botanic Gardens.

In February last year, two smooth-coated otters visited Gardens by the Bay. They eventually raised five pups, and the family was found roaming and eating fish along the banks of Marina Reservoir. They have also been seen inside the Gardens and in its lakes.
