SINGAPORE - Orchard Road will be bathed in hues of blue, turquoise and sapphire from Nov 12 - Jan 2, 2017 during the period of the Christmas light-up.

The official light-up ceremony will be held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza and officiated by President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

Aside from the motifs of reindeer and orbs that will be lit up, seven set pieces will add to the glitz of the season.

Among the seven sets are "jewels" that glow when visitors step, jump or hop around in front of shopping mall Wisma Atria, and a dome which lights up when visitors walk through it, in front of Orchard Building.

The Orchard Road Business Association(Orba) announced details of the Christmas light-up on Thursday (Oct 27).

The lights, all 60,620 metres of them, will glitter along 2.9km of road stretching from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura.

Mastercard, the Official Card for the event, Christmas on A Great Street, will also team up with Orba and ComfortDelgro Taxis to knock off $5 off taxi fares to and from Orchard Road during the eight weekends over the light-up period, capped at 900 trips every weekend.

The annual Best Dressed Building contest will also take place this year, with the participation of 10 malls, including Wheelock Place, ION Orchard, and Orchard Central.
