SINGAPORE - Lights illuminated Orchard Road minutes before 8pm on Saturday, marking the start of this year's Christmas light-up.
The lights were turned on by President Tony Tan Keng Yam, who was guest of honour at the ceremony.
The highlights for the the 2.88km show, which stretches from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura, include a golden arch hung with multi-coloured stars near Ion Orchard, and a 7m rotating Christmas tree outside Robinsons The Heeren.
More than $1.4 million has been raised for the Care & Share Movement from this year's light-up, said Mr Tan Puay Kern, co-chairman of the ComChest Care and Share SG50 Light-up Committee. The light-up will start every day at 6.30pm, and run until Jan 1 next year.
