SINGAPORE - Some shops at Orchard Gateway had to close on Tuesday (Feb 16) after the basement two level of the mall flooded.

There was leaking from about 5.30am, said a spokesman from Savills Singapore, which manages the mall.

One of the water cooling pipes in the air-conditioning system was damaged and the mall is investigating the cause.

Shops affected included Watsons, MDS, Toy Outpost and In:famous. The leakage started at In:famous, a casual fashion store, and spread to other shops.

By 11am, clean-up operations were almost done, Savills said. The affected areas were cordoned off, Lianhe Zaobao reported.

"It was not that serious, the water level was only one or two inches deep at most in some places," said Mr Chan Kok Hong, Savills Singapore's managing director of property management.

An affected shop owner told Zaobao that his shop has seen such leakages three times in the past two years.
