A male passenger died after being trapped in an SMRT bus which skidded and overturned at the junction of the Bukit Timah Expressway and Dairy Farm Road on Sunday morning.

Another male passenger and the bus driver were conveyed to National University Hospital for treatment.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at 8.57am and arrived to find a male passenger trapped in bus service number 700A.

He was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The Straits Times understands there were only two passengers on the bus at the time of the accident, and that no other vehicles were involved.

SMRT said on Sunday it is making a "full assessment" of the accident.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident and extend our compassion to family members of the deceased, and will do all we can to assist the injured passengers and their families. We will provide further updates when the investigation by the Police is complete," said Ms Kalai Natarajan, Vice-President, Corporate and Marketing Communications.
