Oil spill clean-up efforts continue; oil stains found along Tanah Merah shoreline: MPA

Efforts to clean up 100 tonnes of oil that spilled off Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal continued today after Tuesday's collision between two bulk carriers, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a statement on Wednesday.

No one was injured in the accident which involved the South Korean-registered Oriental Pioneer and the Atlantic Hero, a Bahamas-registered carrier.

Nine crafts were deployed on Wednesday as part of surveillance, containment and recovery efforts.

MPA said some oil stains were found earlier in the day along the rock bunds and sandy shoreline near Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, adding that the National Environment Agency is coordinating cleaning efforts along affected areas.

Port operations and vessel traffic in port waters remain unaffected.

MPA said members of the public can contact its 24-hour Marine Safety Control Centre at 6325-2488/9 to report any sighting of oil slick in the waters or coastlines.
