Number of dengue cases rising at a faster rate

A total of 820 dengue cases were reported in the week ending June 8 - the highest number on record to date.

This brings the total number of cases recorded this year to 9,303, surpassing the 8,843 in 2007's epidemic. These numbers were revealed at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon chaired by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan where updates were given on the situation and what additional measures were being taken by authorities to tackle the outbreak.

The transmission also appears to be picking up in the northern and western parts of Singapore.

Currently one in three dengue clusters are found in the north and the west. Earlier this year, only one in seven clusters were found in these areas of Singapore.
