NSman collapses after suffering cardiac arrest after IPPT run

An Operationally-Ready national Serviceman (NSman) collapsed after completing a 2.4km run at Selarang Camp on Monday.

Corporal(NS) Gan Theng Kiong, 34, suffered a cardiac arrest after finishing the run for his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) at 9.15am, said the Defence Ministry in a statement on Wednesday. He has no known prior medical history or existing condition, the statement added.

A medic attended to the NSman and, a minute later, sent him to the Selarang Camp Medical Centre where CPR was performed on him. He was later sent to Changi General Hospital, during which efforts to revive him continued. At 9.50am, he arrived at the hospital, where he underwent an "emergency procedure". Mindef did not say what was the procedure.

Cpl(NS) Gan is currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit and is closely monitored by specialists. Mindef said the Singapore Armed Forces is currently providing assistance to CPL(NS) Gan's family.
