NParks is giving away 40,000 seed-planting kits to all Primary 3 pupils in Singapore with Roysth School being one of the first schools to receive the kits.

The project is to commemorate 50 years since a plan to get Singapore green was set in motion by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who got the ball rolling with a Mempat tree at Farrer Circus.

The seed planting kits contain sunflower, kangkong, and roselle seeds. NParks said that plants were chosen as they germinate quickly, require little care and look pleasing to the eye.

The schools are free to use the plants as they wish, and Rosyth, which is currently housed in a holding campus, intends use them to beautify their renovated compound when they move in a the end of the year. The germinating plants however would be used as a way to teach the science syllabus.
