No investigation into why government websites were offline: Singapore police

The Singapore Police Force has clarified that there was no investigation into why its website was offline for some time on Saturday.

Several websites belonging to ministries and government agencies had been inaccessible on Saturday afternoon, after a hacker or a group of hackers recently threatened to hit out at Singapore's infrastructure if the Government did not reconsider the regulations of the licensing framework for news sites.

The Infocomm Development Authority posted an update on its Facebook page that the websites were under "planned maintenance", but many news sites reported that the SPF was investigating the problem, seemingly contradicting the IDA's statement.

"Many news articles and online websites have reported that Police are investigating into the matter. However, Police would like to clarify that this is inaccurate and there is no such investigation going on. Misreporting by an earlier news article had led to the spread of this inaccurate information in other media and online websites," the SPF said on its Facebook page on Sunday.
