Nine new direct bus services to the city from January next year

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will roll out nine new City Direct bus services from January next year, to give commuters an additional travelling option to the city.

To be run by private bus operators, City Direct bus services will ply limited stops in housing estates before taking an expressway to the Central Business District.

In a statement, the LTA said the new bus services will be launched progressively from January next year to the second quarter of next year in the following estates: Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Bukit Batok, Eunos, Hougang, Jurong East, Sembawang, Sengkang and West Coast. It has called a tender to invite private bus operators to submit their cost proposals to operate these new services.

The LTA added that it has awarded a two-year contract to operate the Jurong West City Direct service to private bus operator ComfortDelGro Bus for $1,058,560. The service will be introduced this September. It is the first City Direct service to be awarded under the $1.1 billion Bus Service Enhancement Programme. The LTA said ComfortDelGro Bus submitted the lowest bid that was able to fully meet the tender requirements.
