The Traffic Police and Singapore Road Safety Council on Thursday, announced a new initiative to help drive the message of road safety to Singapore's youth.

On the cards in the new 'Educating the Young' campaign: A road safety poster design and video competition, which students can participate in.

Speaking to 500 students at Woodlands Primary School at the launch of the youth outreach segment of Singapore Road Safety Month 2013, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mr Hawazi Daipi, stressed the importance of road safety for children.

"Such accidents are painful reminders of the constant danger that exists on our roads," he said, citing the fatal accident in Tampines in January this year involving two school children. "We must therefore press on with our efforts to make our roads safer."
