New High Court Judge sworn in by President Tony Tan

President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Monday swore in Mr Vinodh Sabesan Coomaraswamy, 48, as a Judge of the High Court at a ceremony held at the Istana.

He was appointed Judicial Commissioner on Aug 1 last year, after seven years as senior counsel. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1992 as well as in New South Wales in 2005 and New York in 2007.

A graduate from Nottingham University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Laws (Upper Second Class Honours) degree, and from Oxford University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Civil Law (Second Class Honours) degree, he also won first prize in the 1991 Trinity Bar Examinations.

He began his legal career in the law firm of Shook Lin & Bok in 1992 and became a partner at the firm in 1996.
