New forum to enhance responsible gambling

A forum has been set up to improve on responsible gambling practices in Singapore.

Established by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the Responsible Gambling Forum will comprise industry and community leaders.

It aims to allow those in the gambling industry and the community to discuss and share information on societal concerns on gambling, and to come up with measures to promote responsible gambling.

The forum will be chaired by Mr Tan Soo Nan, who is chief executive of Singapore Pools, and Mr Patrick Liew, chairman of Ayer Rajah Citizens' Consultative Committee.

The idea of launching such a forum was first mooted during a consultation exercise conducted in July 2012 by the National Council on Problem Gambling.

Acting MSF Minister Chan Chun Sing said: "This will minimise excessive and problem gambling among patrons."
