Singapore Polytechnic (SP) has launched a new diploma in engineering systems, which teaches students both engineering disciplines with management and social sciences skills.

The course is touted as the first of its kind in Singapore and will begin with a pioneer batch of 40 students in April.

One highlight of the programme for students is an 18-week internship in their third year with either technology giant IBM or public transport operator SMRT.

SP's deputy principal for technology and industry Lim Peng Hun said: "Our integrated programme will offer students three-year training to design and build systems in social and economic context, and help enhance their critical thinking. Our students will be well-placed in the fast growing engineering services industry when they graduate."
