New construction, prefabrication facility to meet demand from building industry

A new construction and prefabrication facility was announced on Monday to meet the local demand for more pre-cast production.

The five-storey building in Eunos will be built and operated by construction firm the SEF Group. It is expected to be completed next year. Covering an area of 32,608 sqm, the building will house a factory for pre-cast parts, a storage area, offices and workers' dormitories.

Said Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan at the announcement of this new facility: "As demand for pre-cast and prefabrication components increases, so will the demand for the production capacity of pre-cast components."

He noted that currently between 10 and 25 per cent of private residential developments are built using prefabrication, and between 50 and 70 per cent for public flats.
