New chapter for real estate agents set up to boost professionalism, training

A new chapter has been set up to look after the needs of real estate agents and boost professionalism in the sector.

The Real Estate Professionals Chapter, which is part of the Singapore Industrial and Services Employees' Union, is getting $20,000 in pilot funding from the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). This money will go towards defraying training costs among other things.

To qualify, property agents need to join up with the chapter for $117 a year. In turn, they will receive a 50 per cent subsidy on courses that deal with issues like advertising guidelines and new policies. Up to 200 professionals are expected to benefit from this.

There are currently more than 30,000 property agents registered with the authorities. The chapter was officially launched by NTUC secretary-general Mr Lim Swee Say on Monday.
