Nepal earthquake: Three members of Singapore Everest team to stay, one to be evacuated

SINGAPORE - Three members from the Aluminaid Team Singapura 2015 team attempting to fly the Singapore flag on Mount Everest remain at the base camp while a fourth member is being evacuated out of capital Kathmandu.

Economics graduate Seumas Yeo will be evacuated out of Kathmandu on Monday (April 27), team captain Muhammad Hilwan Mohamed Idrus said in an email update.

Mr Yeo sustained an injury on April 15 during the team's Lobuche summit climb and has had a surgery at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu. It was after the surgery while he was recovering at the hospital that an earthquake with magnitude 7.8 shook Nepal.

Mr Yeo will be departing Nepal via a Republic of Singapore Air Force aircraft and will be getting immediate medical attention in Singapore, Mr Hilwan added.

Mr Ismail Latiff, Mr Zulkifli Latiff and Ms Nur Yusrina Ya'akob are still waiting at Everest Base Camp for an opportunity to continue the mission. They are safe and away from danger. Though they are shaken, they are still staying positive.

Mr Hilwan is based in Singapore as he was unable to make the trek after suffering a stroke last year.
