NEA to conduct thorough vector control operations in Hougang after first dengue death

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is conducting thorough vector control operations around Hougang Avenue 1, after a man living there died from dengue fever.

Mr Ang Yong Hong, 20, lived at block 103 in Hougang Avenue 1, one of the dengue clusters in the current dengue epidemic. NEA inspectors will be sent to the area to conduct the vector control operations.

The NEA said in its statement on Thursday that Mr Ang was first diagnosed with viral fever when he went to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital's emergency department on Tuesday. He was discharged after his condition improved, and asked to return if his symptoms worsened. He was also asked to visit an outpatient clinic for a blood test.

But on Sunday, he returned to the hospital and was diagnosed with dengue. His condition worsened and he died on Wednesday.
Dengue is spread by the Aedes mosquito.
