NDP 2015: All you need to know about the parade

SINGAPORE - Singapore will celebrate its 50th birthday at the Padang with a Golden Jubilee Parade. It is expected to have the largest fireworks display, a vintage parade and special aerial displays by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, including a tribute flypast to honour the late founding prime minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

NDP 2015: Mobile Column showcasing nation's military might will be most diverse ever

A convoy of 177 war vehicles will rumble past the Padang this Aug 9 as the mobile column returns after five years.

Twenty-six types of vehicles are making their debut at National Day Parade (NDP) 2015, making the line-up the most diverse.

These include a combat ambulance, an armoured engineer vehicle used primarily for clearing mines or demolishing wire obstacles, as well as an upgraded version of a battle tank.

National Day Parade tickets selling on Carousell for up to $400

Highly sought after National Day Parade tickets can be found on mobile marketplace Carousell. But only if you are willing to fork over up to $400.

The tickets are free but members of the public had to participate in a ballot to get them. The results of the ballot were announced from June 1 to 5, and successful applicants collected their tickets from June 5 to 14. Sale of the tickets is prohibited.

Dick Lee unveils 2015 NDP song, Our Singapore: Revisit past National Day Parade theme songs

Our Singapore, the National Day song for Singapore's 50th year of independence, has been unveiled.

Songwriter Dick Lee, 57, who penned the song, will sing it with pop singer JJ Lin.

Mr Lee said he did not want people to compare his new song to his previous song Home, and acknowledged he felt a lot of pressure writing the new one.

'Ballet in the sky' by 50 aircraft for NDP

Fifty aircraft will dazzle crowds at this year's National Day Parade (NDP) - the biggest fleet to appear at the Aug 9 show in almost 40 years.

More than 10 types of aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force will soar over Marina Bay and the Padang during the golden jubilee parade to perform a four-minute aerial ballet. They will include F-16 and F-15 fighter jets, a C-130 transport plane, Fokker 50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and S-70B naval helicopters.

The only time there were more than 50 aircraft staging an aerial display was at the 1976 parade.

RSAF's Black Knights to perform special flypast at National Day Parade in honour of Mr Lee Kuan Yew

The Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) Black Knights will perform a special flypast at this year's National Day Parade to honour the late founding prime minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen wrote in a Facebook post: "The Black Knights will thunder over the Padang, lined up as 5 stars watching over this nation he founded; representing the ideals that Mr Lee spent his life pushing for - democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

"It will be a fitting tribute to Mr Lee, for all of us to look up and beyond and remember his wish to keep Singapore going."

NDP funpacks for all Singaporeans, even at home: Here are 5 facts about funpacks

All Singaporeans will be able to join in the fun even if they fail to snag tickets to this year's National Day Parade.

Every Singaporean and permanent resident household - about 1.2 million in all - will each receive a funpack, said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen during his ministry's Budget debate on Thursday.

The funpacks will cost $10 million, part of which will be covered by corporate sponsorships. Here is a look at five facts about funpacks, a National Day staple now.
