NDP 2013: Want a sneak peek of the Aug 9 parade? Key scenes to watch out for

More than 5,000 performers will take to the stage at the Float@Marina Bay on Friday evening to thrill spectators at 2013's National Day Parade.

Organisers have promised a more engaging show this year.

The pre-parade segment will kick off with pop quizzes, snacks from a kacang puteh man and a Singlish song.

The four emcees this year are NDP veteran Gurmit Singh, theatre practitioners Siti Kalijah and Sebastian Tan, and deejay Vernetta Lopez.

They will warm up spectators for the military parade as well as the main show, which is themed One Singapore...Many Stories.

The hour-long segment will depart from the traditional three-act shows of the past. Instead, the song-and-dance will be broken up into nine segments celebrating Singaporeans and their stories.

As an NDP first, Team Singapore athletes like paddler Feng Tianwei and the LionsXII will also be performing. The achievements of paralympians like para-equestrian Laurentia Tan will also be celebrated.

In between, watch out for mash-ups of National Day songs and ditties about different parts of Singapore.

To cap it all will be the highlight of every NDP - fireworks. They will light up the sky at about 8.15pm.

Above are scenes from the parade taken at the rehearsals and Preview Show, in chronological order of appearance.
