About 1,500 people assembled at the Kranji War Cemetery yesterday morning to remember those who died in war. As bagpipers played a solemn tune, the crowd, which included military personnel, diplomats, students and members of the public, laid poppy wreaths at the war memorial and observed two minutes of silence. They were gathered for the Remembrance Sunday ceremony, held in Commonwealth countries on the Sunday nearest to Nov 11 - the day World War I ended in 1918.
