PM Lee to launch exhibition celebrating The Straits Times' 170th anniversary

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will launch "Singapore STories: Then, Now, Tomorrow", an exhibition to celebrate The Straits Times' 170th anniversary. The showcase will share significant moments from the country's history through the pages of Singapore's oldest English-language daily, first published on July 15, 1845. The exhibition will be open to the public from July 17 to Oct 4 and is the first at the ArtScience Museum - its co-curator - that is free to the public. - WALTER SIM and JERMYN CHOW

The Traffic Police will reveal the mid-year road traffic situation at a media conference today. Information to be released includes statistics on fatality and injury, as well as which group is the most vulnerable on the road. A new commendation initiative for road users will also be announced at the event, chaired by the Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner Sam Tee. - DANSON CHEONG

National Heritage Board exhibition showcasing 50 made-in-Singapore products from 50 companies opens today

What do the Knife brand cooking oil, Trek thumb drives and the Double Prawn Brand Herbal Oil have in common? They are all Singapore brands. These products, and more, will be featured in an exhibition by the National Heritage Board that celebrates homegrown products as well as the country's manufacturing achievements. The exhibition, part of Singapore's golden Jubilee celebrations, will showcase 50 made-in-Singapore products from 50 companies. It opens today at the National Museum of Singapore. - CHERYL FAITH WEE

New private home sales data to be released

Data for new private home sales for June will be released today. Market watchers expect tepid sales as buyers traditionally stay away from the property market in June due to the school holidays.
As it is, the numbers for May were already quite dismal, with developers shifting only 638 units, down 45 per cent from April's level. - RENNIE WHANG

India PM to launch Skill India Campaign and new National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Skill India Campaign today, which includes the National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) and all-India flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). He will also unveil the new National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015. The event, where Mr Modi will be guest of honour, also coincides with World Youth Skills Day. PMKVY seeks to encourage the learning of more skills with monetary rewards for those who complete approved training programmes. Its pilot phase has already started. The NSDM will handle the implementation of skills activities in the country. -- JEREMY LEE
