Dates to be decided for parliamentary run for seat left vacant by Anwar Ibrahim's jailing

Malaysia's Election Commission is set to meet today to decide the nomination and polling dates for the race for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat which has been left vacant after opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's jailing. Anwar was sentenced to five years' jail on Feb 10 after he was convicted of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. -- LEE CHOO KIONG

Thailand to sign five memorandums of understanding with Russia

Thailand will sign five memorandums of understanding with Russia today on increasing cooperation on energy, investment, tourism and culture, as well as suppressing drug crime, during Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the country. Thailand has stepped up engagement with China and Russia in response to cooler ties with old ally the United States and other Western countries worried about the suspension of democracy and curtailment of some human rights. -- LEE CHOO KIONG
