SINGAPORE - More than 10,000 Buddhist devotees, holding lotus-shaped lamps, walked round Hougang Stadium yesterday while praying for the peace and health of the nation.

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who is Buddhist, joined the procession.

The Singapore Buddhist Welfare Services organised the event ahead of Vesak Day, which falls on June 1 this year.

On Vesak Day, Buddhists commemorate the birth, enlightenment and final nirvana of Buddha.
