The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will expand two measures that give buses more priority on the roads.

From the middle of October, it will begin works to add 25km of new bus lanes at 13 selected road corridors islandwide, including Sembawang Road, Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 and Bedok North Ave 3. The LTA said the roads selected have sufficiently high numbers of buses plying along them and enough traffic lanes to accommodate the implementation of new bus lanes.

The LTA will also roll out the Mandatory Give-Way to Buses scheme to another 135 bus bays from November. These measures are meant to improve the overall reliability and speeds of buses.

There are currently 23km of full-day bus lanes and 155km of normal bus lanes. There will be about 200km of bus lanes islandwide when the new bus lanes are completed by the end of this year. The new bus lanes will operate during the operational hours for the normal bus lane scheme from 7.30am to 9.30am and 5pm to 8pm on weekdays.
