SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is investigating an accident at a construction site in Jalan Sultan that left a 41-year-old construction worker dead.
An MOM spokesman said the ministry was alerted to a fatal incident at 371 Beach Road, Citygate, on Monday (Feb 5), where a worker, who was carrying out concreting works at a building under construction, was found with his neck pierced by a rebar (or reinforcing bar).
He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
All concreting works within the worksite have stopped, the spokesman added.
The developer of the project is Bayfront Ventures Pte Ltd, and the occupier is Woh Hup (Private) Limited.
The police told The Straits Times that they were alerted to an industrial accident at a construction site in Minto Road at 8.55pm.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at 9pm and immediately responded.
"A 41-year-old man was found motionless and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Police are investigating the unnatural death," said the police spokesman.
ST understands that he was a Chinese national.
A sign at the construction site said a 30-storey commercial mixed development by Bayfront Ventures with commercial spaces and a residential tower was planned.
