MOH releases details on enhanced nursing home care standards

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has released more details of the enhanced nursing home care standards, following consultations with the homes, caregivers, and members of the public.

The new standards outline more clearly what will be expected from nursing homes in three aspects: clinical areas like pain management, residents' psychosocial well-being, and internal governance.

While the new standards will take effect from next year, nursing homes will be given a one-year grace period to adapt before standards are enforced.

The MOH is also working with the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) on programmes to help nursing homes step up. These include a voluntary baseline assessment programme, staff training courses, and a guide of best practices.
