Minister Yaacob Ibrahim to visit US, Canada, to discuss cybersecurity cooperation, digital economy

SINGAPORE - Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, will visit the United States and Canada from Sunday to Friday (July 9 - 14).

Dr Yaacob, who is also the Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity, will be in Washington from Sunday to Tuesday to hold discussions with White House cybersecurity officials and Congressional Cyber Leaders, and to broaden US-Singapore cooperation in cybersecurity, the Ministry of Communications and Information said in a press release on Saturday (July 8).

Singapore and the US had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in August 2016, which formalises both countries' commitment to work together in building a secure and resilient cyberspace through cybersecurity cooperation.

From Wednesday to Friday, Dr Yaacob will be in Canada, where he will meet the Canadian Ministers in-charge of technology and innovation portfolios to exchange perspectives and ideas on innovation, the digital economy and digital readiness.

He will also visit the libraries and archives in Ottawa and Montreal to learn about their digitisation and preservation efforts.

Dr Yaacob will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information, the Cyber Security Agency and the National Library Board.
