The Ministry for Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) clarified in a statement Wednesday that there are no on-going meetings or discussions between the Government and the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery with regards to the Council's plans to erect a statue dedicated to 'comfort women'.

'Comfort women' refer to women who were forced by the Japanese Army into sexual slavery during World War II.

A media report by AFP revealed that the group said they planned to erect statues in Singapore, China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

A spokesperson for the Korean council told The Straits Times they had planned to come to Singapore Thursday to speak to the relevant Ministry regarding plans to erect the statue, but have cancelled these plans upon seeing reports of the statement from the MCCY in the media.
