Mayors in tune with festive mood

Taiwanese erhu player Feng Qi Jie, 30, and the mayors of the five districts - (from left) Mr Desmond Choo, Dr Maliki Osman, Ms Low Yen Ling, Ms Denise Phua and Dr Teo Ho Pin - entertained the crowds at the River Hongbao with their rendition of a classic Chinese-language song, The Story Of A Small Town, during Getai Night yesterday. A fireworks display rounded off the evening. Other attractions at the annual River Hongbao at The Float @ Marina Bay include a cultural exhibition. More than 500 lanterns by about 35 craftsmen from China are also on display this year. The event, which is open from 2pm to 11pm daily, has drawn some 1.15 million visitors since its first day on Feb 14. The River Hongbao is organised by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore Tourism Board and People's Association. President Halimah Yacob will grace the final day of festivities on Saturday while Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be the guest of honour on Friday.
