YWCA holds job fair for women on low incomes

SINGAPORE - The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) held a job fair specifically for women on low incomes yesterday

Held at the YWCA's Dhoby Ghaut headquarters, it hosted 25 booths offering employment in hospitality, healthcare, childcare and food and beverage.

The fair was part of the YWCA's Empowering Mums programme, which started in June with 30 women attending weekly classes to boost their chances of finding work.

Although 14 dropped out, 16 women graduated on Saturday and were given a makeover before the job fair.

One graduate, Ms Judy Low, 54, landed a job immediately with the YWCA Child Development Centre.

Ms Low said she was happy to have found employment back in the industry she had left in April due to health reasons.

"I was worried that the four-month break I took would affect my chances," she said, adding that she especially liked the last course module which taught the women how to handle job interviews.
