Man from Myanmar arrested for murder of compatriot in Penjuru Lane

Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Myanmar for the murder of his countryman in Penjuru Lane on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old victim was said to be an engineer at a shipyard in the area.

In a statement released on Thursday, police said they received a call at about 6.43pm on Wednesday, requesting for assistance.

Upon their arrival, they found the victim lying on the ground motionless and was later pronounced dead by paramedics at 7.02pm.

According to evening Chinese newspaper, Shin Min Daily News, the victim has worked in Singapore for a year.

An eyewitness told the daily that he had been killed after a drunken argument with a colleague turned heated.

It is said that the man was bleeding from a head injury.

If convicted for murder, the suspect faces the death penalty.
