A man who acted as a lookout for prostitutes in Geylang was fined $3,000 on Thursday.

Yeo Evans Alex, 25, admitted to intentionally obstructing the course of justice along Jalan Molek at about 6pm on Nov 13 last year.

A court heard that he met one 'Ah Guan' on Nov 10 and accepted the latter's offer to work as a lookout for the prostitutes at Jalan Molek. His role was to alert the women of any police presence. He would be paid $80 to $100 daily.

He started work on Nov 12 and had collected a total of $80 from Ah Guan.

The next day, he was stationed along Jalan Molek when he received information over his walkie-talkie that police officers were nearby.

He notified three prostitutes - a Thai and two Vietnamese - and told them to run, but police arrested all of them, including the accused.

He could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined for the offence.
