SINGAPORE - A 33-year-old man died at PSA's Keppel terminal on Wednesday (Sept 20) morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the rescue incident at about 10.20am. It sent a fire engine, a Red Rhino, an ambulance and three support vehicles to the scene.

When they arrived, they found the man trapped in a cable drum on top of a crane.

A cable drum is a round, cylindrical object used to carry wound-up wires and cables.

The man was pronounced dead by SCDF paramedics at the scene. His body was brought down from the crane by SCDF and PSA's in-house emergency team.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The Straits Times understands he was a Singaporean worker at the terminal. According to the port operator's website, there are 37 quay cranes at the Keppel facility.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, a PSA spokesman said:"PSA is rendering assistance to the family of the deceased and cooperating with the authorities in their investigations."
