Man arrested for theft of more than $900,00 in casino chips

SINGAPORE - A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of more than $900,000 in casino chips from the Marina Bay Sands casino.

The suspect was arrested in Malaysia by the Royal Malaysia Police following the issue of a warrant by the State Courts in Singapore. He was handed over to local police on Wednesday.

In September last year, a casino patron reported that his bag containing casino chips worth more than $900,000, cash amounting to $10,000 and other valuables had been stolen, prompting an investigation by officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday.

He is liable to a maximum of three years in prison or a fine or both if convicted.
