Man arrested for alleged vehicle theft attempt in Bukit Batok

Police have apprehended a 44-year-old man for allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle in Bukit Batok on Sunday.

At 10.46pm that day, a member of the public alerted the police to a man loitering and behaving suspiciously at an open carpark at Bukit Batok West Avenue 6. Officers from the Jurong Police Division approached the suspect and found a bunch of keys, a cash card, and a mobile phone on him. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had tried to open the door of a parked motor van using the bunch of keys.

The suspect was arrested for attempted theft from a vehicle and fraudulent possession of property. The offence is punishable with a jail term of up to three years and a fine.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim thanked the member of the public who alerted the police, and reminded vehicle owners to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles, and to keep them properly secured.
